I found a really interesting article today about therians and otherkin.
The only thing it does put down is shapeshifting. Despite my personal belief in shapeshifting be it the possibility of psychical, spiritual etc. I enjoyed reading this. I find it interesting how the article recognises and talks about shapeshifting in history. Its interesting that it mentions many people are quick to shut down the idea of psychical getting out of hand. It is true this topics can quickly go from zero to 60 and get out of hand if you let them. Many believe there is no scientific basis to measure up the physical shapeshifting. When i think of psychical shapeshifts i believe in possibility of a virus that alters dna and something can involve genetics. Let me know what you think of the article :).
The article seemed fairly well written. It seemed to talk about how therians viewed shapeshifting, so from that angle it comes across as dismissive. Even then, it seemed pretty nice even towards those who believe they are shapeshifting like the clinical lycanthropes, since it brings up how psychiatry only wants to diagnose them with it because they challenge social norms. Shifters also challenge social norms, but generally aren't psychotic either.
I kinda liked the article. The comments, not so much...
